You will find a large variation on salaries even for the same designation, and do note that the salaries above are not always national standards. Variations occurs due to multiple factors like : 1. Doc's seniority at the organization 2. enterprising business links that the physician brings in for the university 3. practice pattern (more clinical versus more academic or research, the latter bringing down the pay), the competition for the specialty in that area - like you might have noticed the relatively low salaries for cardiology..whereas in the hospital system where I am doing my residency in, the cardiologists took home $1 to 1.5 Million in annual salaries im 2008.
