Doctor Salaries in Armenia
Armenia, a former part of the Soviet Republic, is now a democratic country that sits on the northeastern border of Turkey, along with Georgia (We already got a snapshot of the doctor incomes scene in Turkey)Armenia on Google Maps
Here are what the typically poor incomes look like for well-experienced physicians in this Feb 2008 News article on ArmeniaNow:
1. Trauma Surgeon: 66,000 Drams / mth (US $2,580 / year)
2. Tuberculosis Specialist : 99,000 Drams / mth ( US $3870 / year)
3. Obs-Gynecologist: 20,000 Drams / mth (US $781 / year)
4. General Practitioner: 30,000 Drams / mth (US $1,173 / year)
And a nurse who makes around 25,000 Drams a month (US $960 / year) says: "Let my salary be high so that if the patient offers me a chocolate bar I will be afraid to take it" - implying nurses are forced to resort to 'gifts from patients' to supplement low incomes.
Hmm.....I would probably consider jumping over the Turkish fence and work for the eastern-Turkey hospitals that supposedly offer salaries as high as $150,000 a year :-)....And then jump over further west to European nations for still higher incomes, and keep jumping and getting paid more till I reach Britain...and then finally take a flight further west back into where I am now - USA, where they say physicians are actually overpaid by $56 Billion dollars
;-)
