Occupational & Environmental Medicine Salaries in USA
First of all, since this isn't a very well known specialty yet, let us answer "what is Occupational & Environmental medicine ?"
It is that branch of medicine that deals with prevention and treatment of occupational and environmental injury, illness and disability, and promotion of health and productivity of workers, their families, and communities. Since Environmental medicine also dealt with recognition and prevention of hazardous exposures, they are now practiced as a single specialty.
Note: Do not confuse Environmental medicine with Wilderness medicine, which relates to the pathophysiology of humans in environments which are considered to be "wildernesses" and deals with problems like such as high altitude pulmonary edema, frostbite, a wild animal attack, or a sea snake envenomation.

Given the decent pay scales and comfortable work hours seen by practitioners of occupational medicine, the specialty has rather been slow in attracting the attention of medical graduates and young physicians. But, things are beginning to pace up for this specialty, as the youger generation of medical graduates seem to have developed a taste for 'lifestyle specialties' to balance work, money and leisure :-)
And now let's get to what your eyes came here looking for : Their earnings :-) Here's a synopsis:
A 2002 Study by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine found the National average of surveyed physicians to be $188,000/- , thus faring much better than Family medicine and perhaps pretty comparable to compensation levels seen in Hospitalist positions
