Cardiac Electrophysiologist Salaries in India
I happened to catch up with my medical school classmate from India after 5 long years and it was nice to know he was about to complete his three-year specialization in Cardiac Electrophysiology (After first completing a three-year MD program in General Medicine.
This what he found the starting salaries for a fresh Electrophysiologist to be:
Rs.70,000/- to Rs.90,000/- per month in Mumbai (Bombay)
That's about $1732.00 to $2,226/- a month in US Dollars as of 2007
Rs. 1,15,000/- to Rs. 1,25,000/- per month in Pune
That's about $2850.00 to $3,090/- per month in US Dollars as of 2007
Both in Corporate Hospitals
Difference in salaries in these cities about 80 miles apart, he said, was a matter of demand and supply
Salaries climb much higher with experience and much much higher with private practice and good business acumen - indeed, he said, he knows many Cardiac electrophysiologists making much more than any cardiologist in the United States could ever make - citing reasons like 'black' commission money from cardiac stents companies, lack of malpractice insurance (not many people sue docs in India) and even relatively easy tax-evasions
He said he performed 180 pace-maker installations in two-years - a figure one can hardly get in training during USA !
